The reason I feel compelled to answer this question, which by the way Obama himself answered back in 2008, is that some conservatives persist in beating this dead horse to death. Amazingly a recent poll by CNN/ORC poll indicated that 80% of Republicans DO believe Obama was born in the US. Thank you Jesus, especially since Hawaii has been a State, albeit “offshore,” since 1959 and a territory since 1898. But I have learned on cruise ships that there is no explanation as to why many US Americans are totally ignorant of any history or geography outside of the lower 48.
But the alarming thing about this survey is that 29% of Americans say they think the President is a Muslim, including 43% of Republicans. To me that is absolutely incredible, and , I’m sorry but just plain stupid.
The first I heard of then Illinois Senator Barack Obama when he spoke to an Evangelical Christian conference sponsored by Sojourners. Obama can be long-winded at times, but here he was asked to give a speech and he did, maybe more law-professor style than his black-preacher style. At the time there was a lot of fuss about trying to make the US an evangelical-sharia-style government. His subject here is “Religion In The Public Square.” Before you disown me as a friend, or fire off a comment, take the time to listen to Obama’s entire speech. This was in 2008 … before everyone went crazy over a statement by Obama’s pastor which was, and is, totally understandable in the black church experience as I experienced it as a white pastor of a black church in the late ’60s. View the speech This is a multi-part speech, and one part should run right into the next. Take the time to listen to the entire speech.
Then decide if Jesus Christ would vote for Barack Obama.
