This is the US celebration of Thanskgiving … not Black Friday, Turkey Day, but hopefully giving thanks and, maybe more importantly living thanks. I’m grateful for all that God has given me, but I am very aware that over 11,000 people in California have nothing left but friends, and in most but not all cases, family. I’m reminded of what Bob Schuller used to say when he and his ministry were strong and an inspiration to many . . . “Tough times never last, but tough people do.”
When I reflect on my blessings and life a lot of what I feel is expressed in music, the great hymns of the faith and traditional church music, but on a more heart-felt level the gospel-type style I learned to love in the South Bronx at Mott Haven Reformed Church, which, by the way is celebrating 186 years of ministry to the people of Mott Haven.
